Bio
I feel like a newcomer to Pegasus having only been here since July 2010, when Pegasus has been going for almost 50 years. I have worked in the commercial world all my life, and so it is a change to come and be part of an organisation that is interested in something other than profit. I love the theatre and music and so the role as Business Director represents a joining of my skills and experience with one of my life interests. I trained as a chartered accountant and worked in the financial management area for 15 years before working in strategy and marketing for a software company. I became a management consultant and worked on projects for several public organisations improving the way they managed and led themselves.
So my responsibilities include making sure we run our finances well, the building is safe and secure, customers are welcomed and looked after front of house, are tempted to spend time with us in the cafe, and hear all about what we do through press and marketing. I don’t do all this myself – I couldn’t – and there is a fantastic team of people working hard to make it all happen. At the moment, I spend a lot of time developing our business plan, what we’re going to do and how we’re going to do it, over the next few years. I’ve learnt a lot since being with Pegasus; things like never cycling with my mouth open, and the pleasures of a hot bath. I’ve also learned what it’s like to work with people who are passionate about what they do. And I love that.
Outside work, I act and sing and dance a bit for local amateur groups; I like to do some railway modelling, which is usually a cue for a few jokes; and I follow how Wales do at rugby, a cue for even more jokes just recently. I think life is to be enjoyed, and my Facebook page says “be different; respect differences’; I don’t always succeed, but I try.
