Bio
Jackie Singer is a musician, storyteller, community artist, writer and celebrant. She studied English at Oxford University and then qualified as a Drama and Movement Therapist in 1993. Since then she has led many creative and therapeutic groups in the community, with people of all ages and abilities. She currently runs Sing the World – a parent and toddler song and story group at Pegasus and regularly performs as a storyteller in settings such as Barracks Lane Community Garden and Harcourt Arboretum.
The fifth child of two amateur pianists who met playing duets, music has always been a strong presence in her life. She has sung, written songs and played violin from an early age, moving from classical into folk music in her twenties. She played with Jabberwocky (with Andy Letcher, now of Telling the Bees), fronted an all-women trio Tiger Moon, and now for 10 years has enjoyed a powerful collaboration with the other members of Kismet.
Years of community work and a strong interest in ritual have led her into the world of facilitating people to make non-denominational ceremonies such as baby namings and weddings. Her first book on this subject Birthrites – Rituals and Ceremonies for the Child-Bearing Years was published in 2010 and she is currently working on the next book about Coming of Age.
Jackie lives in East Oxford with her husband and two young girls. For more info see www.jackiesinger.co.uk
