Two weeks into the autumn 2009 term and Production Company have been hard at work on the research and development phase of the project…
We started by visiting the Museum of Oxford to get to know their permanent displays and discover the space we’ll be making our exhibition for. With the help of Kate Toomey, Education Officer at the Museum, we began to try to understand what makes an interesting exhibition. How do you catch visitors’ attention? How do you make them want to find out more about the history of something? What sorts of interactive or ‘hands-on’ activities are a real hit with youngsters?
We also took some time to measure and draw the layout of our space in preparation for the practical designing and construction phases. We’ve since put together a design brief that takes into account these practical requirements and the creative and historical purposes and this brief will guide and shape our design ideas in future weeks…
Some of our thoughts on the Museum of Oxford:
“Visiting the Museum of Oxford showed me the many ways we can set up our exhibition and improve what the Museum already have.” – Maria
“Levels of light are very useful to make something stand out” - Louis
“From the trips we learnt a lot about different ways to display something and it was fun too.” – Serena
