Pegasus Dance Company began the 2009/10 season devising and rehearsing a new dance piece based on the ideas from Walking on Eggshells (a piece about the effects on young people of parental separation) for local primary and secondary schools. Working with Oxford Family Mediation, the Company used dance to interpret the themes and ideas also being explored by the Theatre Company. In the Spring Term the piece toured local schools and to the Museum of Oxford, to tie in with Production Company’s exhibition Taking Flight about the history of OYT. The Company have also been developing their tutoring skills by creating and running a workshop to accompany the performance on tour.
In the Spring Term the Dance Company created another piece to accompany Walking on Eggshells, exploring the idea of human genetics. This was performed at The Fourth Dimension platform in March, before touring to the Aberdeen International Youth Arts festival in the summer.
The Summer term will focus on the Company learning and developing choreographic skills by working individually and in groups on short pieces.
The Dance Company contains a mix of young people who have been in dance groups or dance residencies at Pegasus and young people who have experience of dance elsewhere. They are working with their professional tutors to create an ensemble company in which each member can contribute their unique element while developing the company’s distinctive and clear style.
